Websites in Remembrance
A good friend of mine unexpectedly and suddenly past away. Although I haven't met him since 2000, I had always counted on meeting him in times when we happen to cross paths. Prior to 2000, we were in the same time and place in San Francisco, New York and in the Philippines. Every time was an opportunity to get together like time's past.
In an age where friends and relatives are separated in space and in time, it felt appropriate to bring them all together using the technologies that I knew best. So I created a website in his memory.
The interesting aspect is that Noel lived and worked in different places around the globe and touched many different people. I only know the period of time when we both went to college. How then does one capture the life of another individual in words and in images?
A website in remembrance requires contributions by many individuals and can rarely be created by a single author. After all, a person's life is viewed from many different perspectives and touches many different lives in many different ways. It has collaborative aspects like a Wiki, however unlike a Blog that walks forward in time, a memorial site recollects experiences backwards in time.
I sincerely hope that a memorial site can capture a glimpse of one's life and works. In addition, through google or the internet archive, preserve the memories for generations to come.
Noel, rest in peace my friend.
