Not that I'm saying that the original writer of the blog entry didn't think through what he wrote, but as for a valid article on the differences on Verizon vs Comcast, there are a lot of aspects that don't add up, make sense, or really add validity to the arguement.

For one, wireless routers, depending on what kind you actually purchase or lease/rent, can restrict the speed of your connection, even if you have the fastest speed available with whatever provider you're with. So to be using a router and doing a speedtest through a wireless signal, I don't hold any validity to that.

Two, while Comcast is a big corporate company, I've never had an issues with their customer service, but as for Verizon, the opposite is true. Comcast sets up their trouble calls pretty effectively and are good for sending someone out if the appointment was missed / skipped over, which in the realm of things, is inevitably going to happen no matter what provider you're with.

Three, Comcast doesn't lock you into any contracts. Yes, they DO have contracts available, but you can get great rates for long periods of time without one. Verizon, for the decent prices that are even equal to or comparable to Comcast's prices, do lock you into a contract. So once you're with them, you're stuck. Also, there have been many reports of technicians coming out and removing the copper wiring from homes so people can't switch back to any other previous provider without getting those copper lines reinstalled, which costs a lot of money.

Personally, for reliability, I'd hands down go for Comcast because I know they're better. And with all the things coming around the corner, why wouldn't I? While Verizon is showing some good steps competition-wise, they are nowhere close to the quality and respect Comcast has. Not that either of them are perfect, because they aren't, but Comcast > Verizon anyday to me.

the mere fact that fios uses laser technology in the fiber lines there is no way even at comparable speeds cable can keep up. last i checked light is the fastest thing known to man

I've had both comcast and verizon...and i currently have the latter. While both are fast, Verizon seems to edge out Comcast. Comcast is awful when it comes to reliability. I remember having to reset the router multiple times a day, and sometimes even that wasn't good enough. Their customer service sucks horribly. I never had to talk to Verizon's customer service because it never goes down. When we had comcast, it was in a contract, and there's no way the fastest speed is $44. From what I've heard its $52.95 bundled with television service. More expensive without tv!
