I too think Joshua Bloch's Effective Java should be on the list

Another vote for Effective Java. It's about the only book on Java worth owning. I'm very surprised that Carlos would include so much throwaway and reference material yet discount in-depth works such as Effective Java and Concurrent Programming in Java.
