I guess you may have missed the "open source" reference.

Of course, in no way does this list imply that the "open source" alternatives are better than the proprietary ones.

I want a list of tools. I've never been on a project where "open source" was a requirement. A list of good tools is useful, not a censored list meeting a silly criteria. Many times I've used a commercial product over an open source one primarily becuase is was cheaper (my coders time isn't free). Glue vs AXIS is a good example.
