Sugar CRM is prob. one of the best, and vtiger which is based on Sugar CRM. I have been trying to load Sugar CRM on my web host's servers ... almost there.

Easy: SugarCRM is not a Java implementation.

Sugar is built on a PHP platform. Plus you really have to look at the most recent opensource distro to appreciate it.
