Yes, probably it's annoying. I used it for more impact, but its definitely an ugly style.
Recommending Polyglot programming isn't a good idea. It's like saying learn Groovy, Ruby, Scala and a smidgen of Python. Were all have limited bandwidth, the less the better. So as much as I like Scala, I'm not about to recommend it.
