Maybe not "the" new web standard... "Although Python is currently the only language supported by Google App Engine, we look forward to supporting more languages in the future."

But certainly Google continues to give much love to Python, more than the hype-following masses do.

When you have the language creator as an employee, you are likely to give it some love. Everyone I have talked to doesn't like python for one primary reason: whitespace having syntatic meaning. I tend to agree.
