java.net Promoting and Supporting Open Source Projects

20030610150843

I don't remember how I got to this link, but it appears that java.net is hosting a whole bunch of open source projects.  The notable entries are JavaCC, JGoodies, MultiSchema Validator all being licensed under BSD!  In addition there's JAXB,  and JavaHelp all with "unknown" open source licenses.

Java.net is offering "federated" services (i.e. wikis, weblogs, forums, file sharing, issue tracking,  mailing lists, CVS etc) for anyone accepting the their guiding principles

The use of JGoodies Forms and Looks will definitely improve the way Swing applications will look.  Matter of fact, I read somewhere that JetBrains of IntelliJ will also be open sourcing the code for their GUI builder.  This is really great news for Swing developers.

The presence of tools and the opening up of several formerly closed source implementation is an excellent step forward.  Afterall, it is the strength of the Java open source community that differentiates Java from pretenders.
